After a blogging break over the weekend (review for The Internship and a new edition of “Checking Out The Happy-Haps” are on the way) it is time for…
Welcome to this week’s edition of “Movie News Monday!” (“MNM!”)!!
What is ‘MNM’ all about?
In case this is your first time here, “Movie News Monday!” (MNM) is the place to visit every Monday for a quick recap of trending entertainment news! I’ve collected info, rumors, etc from all over just for you to keep you updated on movies being released, actors/actresses in roles, dvd releases to keep a lookout for, which movie won in the box office over the weekend, etc! Are you ready for your weekly update? Here it is!
This Just In!!…
#1- “The Weekend Winner.” Last weekend, 2 wide new releases entered the Top Ten of the box office arena. And even though Fast & Furious 6 finished in second place, it still is enjoying a good run as it has just passed the $200M mark domestically right along side Star Trek Into Darkness. Almost as expected, The Purge is enjoying its short-lived run at first place as thrillers such as these usually open strong. It will submit to Man of Steel this weekend.
Here are the weekend’s estimated results for Fri, June 7-Sun, June 9:
- The Purge ~$36.4M
- Fast & Furious 6 ~$19.8M
- Now You See Me ~$19.5M
- The Internship ~$18M
- Epic ~$12M
- Star Trek Into Darkness ~$11.7M
- After Earth ~$11.2M
- The Hangover Part III ~$7.4M
- Iron Man 3 ~$5.8M
- The Great Gatsby ~$4.2M
*Actuals may vary as earnings are updated much later on Monday afternoons. For updates, visit boxofficemojo.com.
What did YOU watch this weekend?
#2- “Superhero Photo roundup.” Here are some of the latest shots from upcoming superhero movies. Below you will find a gallery for Man of Steel, X-Men: Days of Future Past, The Wolverine, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Thor: The Dark World. Click any of the photos for a fullscreen slideshow.
Check out this cool photo of Magneto rising for X-Men: Days of Future Past.
Which superhero movie are you most excited for? I’m willing to bet the majority of responses right now are Man of Steel.
#3- “R’ha given power of the Force.“ The short film R’ha that was created by Kaleb Lechowski is something that I found several months back and was very impressed by it. First, give it a watch and then read my report following it:
Creator Kaleb Lechowski’s short film will be made into a full-length feature film, backed by Star Wars producers Rich McCallum and Steve Tzirlin. The two, working with IAM Entertainment are going to produce this film WITH Kaleb Lechowski as the director of his own story! I like it when impressive short films like this get picked up and the originator gets to be a big part of the full-length feature. (Matthew Graham from “Life on Mars” will provide the screenplay.)
Kaleb Lechowski has a full FAQ about his film available HERE. You can follow him and the progress of R’ha with the following links:

What do you think of R’ha? Do you like short films?
#4- “Archie coming to Hollywood!” Remember the crew? Pretty much the pre-GLEE, pre-SavedByTheBell highschool group to follow! ARCHIE!
Archie, Veronica, Betty, Jughead and more are headed to the big screen. With Scooby-Doo, Tin-Tin and others already having hit the theaters, I wondered what was taking moviemakers so long to get Archie on board. ClevverMovies reports on this news with a bit of a zombie twist?? Watch below:
Well, I’m not sure yet, but it will be interesting to see what develops from this. I liked reading the comics so a movie may not be so bad. Thanks to ClevverMovies.
Are you ready for interested in an Archie movie? What about a zombie-Archie movie?
#5- “This Week’s Blu-ray release.” This week, look for the following films on Blu-ray to possibly add to your collection:
Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters- I know, it seemed too ridiculous. But, believe it or not, this R-rated retold fairytale continuation starring Jeremy Renner, Gemma Arterton, Famke Janssen and more was a lot of fun. If you get the chance, I even recommend seeing it in 3D. Watch as Hansel and Gretel hunt down witches 15 years after their famous encounter with a witch that tried to eat them in a gingerbread house. Invite them into your house this week. Check out my full thoughts in my review for this film HERE.
Several other films also release this week. Check it out!
Also releasing: Oz: The Great and Powerful (read my REVIEW), Snitch (read my REVIEW), Necessary Roughness and more.
